Bubba Sparxx: “my life ain’t a joke”
Sparxx’s “Ms. New Booty” was chosen to appear in the latest showing of the second volume of “Now That’s What I Call Music” and is available in stores. His newest album, however, is CHARM and is described as more conventional. It is doing very well in terms of sales.
Bubba was born Warren Anderson Mathis on March 6, 1977 in a small sawmill town in George – LaGrange. His fans consider him a southern rapper and they loved his 2001 hit single “Ugly.” He has also been called one of the pioneers of country rap.
A neighbor, who was receiving tapes from New York City, introduced Bubba Sparxxx to hip hop music. He joined a group called One Card Shi in 1996 and began recording with them. The team split up shortly afterwards, and his rendition of George and his singing in “Dark Days, Bright Nights” attracted the attention of Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine. Sparxx collaborated with Timbaland as well. His album, “Deliverance” did not sell very well, as there was some confusion regarding its classification. It is said to portray life in rural America and is a happy blend of country and hip with pounding sounds and heavy bass sounds. According to some observers, the album failed to reach its commercial potential owing to an internal strife at Interscope then. In 2006, “The Charm” sold much better, complementing his two popular songs, “Ms. New Booty” and “Heat it Up.”
How did it all start with Bubba? Actually he was first seen in overalls and sitting on a tractor in 2001 in the video “Ugly.” It hurt him when people thought it was a big joke and he remarked that the people have just got to wait until he can show them that his life ain’t a big joke. He credits Big Boi with his return to success, saying that it was the faith of Big Boi that kept him going. Before they, he thought his life was one dark alley with no hope. Big Boi did have plenty of faith in Bubba and signed him up with Purple Records, and that’s when things started to get better for Bubba Sparxxx.
In 2002, during the Juggalos Gathering, Bubba Sparxxx received the Bubba Sparxxx Award which is awarded to a singer who is intensely booed and chased out of the stage before finishing his performance. Other famous artists like Bushwick Bill, Kurupt and Too $short have been given the awards.
